Exercise buffs turn out to be burglars

-

SERDANG: The tactics of three members of the Kin Gang, who passed themselves off as exercise enthusiasts before breaking into a house, were finally uncovered after three members of the group were arrested by the police last Thursday.

Serdang district police chief ACP Razali Abu Samah said two male suspects, aged 44 and 52, were arrested while trying to escape after failing to break into an apartment in Seri Kembangan at about 12.20pm that day.

According to him, following the arrests police nabbed a 41-year-old woman in Taman Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur the same day. A check revealed the suspects had five to 14 criminal and drug related offences.

“Preliminary investigations showed the group, which has been active for the past five months, wore sports clothing and pretended to perform exercises in a residential area during the day.

“Each member had his own role, namely to break into the house, monitor the surrounding situation and wait in the vehicle,” he said at a press conference at the Serdang district police headquarters yesterday.

Police seized two cars, various housebreaking tools, some antiques and other items estimated to be worth RM10,000 following their arrest.

An initial urine test revealed the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

Razali said the suspects were remanded until Dec 2, to assist investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

The police also managed to solve 10 burglary cases in the Serdang, Petaling Jaya and Brickfields districts suspected of being masterminded by the group, he added. – Bernama
