Postecoglou hits back after Dier comment
manager Ange Postecoglou has hit back at claims that he “does no tactical work”.
Ex-Spurs defender Eric Dier recently claimed that the Aussie boss’ training style focused on how he wants his team to play, regardless of opposition.
Postecoglou has impressed with how he has taken to life in north London. The ex-Celtic boss has transformed the club into an attacking, highenergy team that looks capable of pushing for silverware with the right investment in certain areas.
Tottenham still appear to have their weaknesses defensively, conceding four goals against Newcastle over the weekend. However, despite their frailties, Postecoglou has responded to suggestions that he does not conduct “tactical” work on the training ground.
Earlier this month, former Tottenham star Dier told The Overlap: “Interestingly, he really doesn’t do any tactical work (in training). What he does is, every single training drill from Monday to Friday is drawn up to represent the way that he wants to play.”
Postecoglou was taken aback when quizzed on how he would respond to such claims, to which he replied: “I would probably say we don’t do anything apart from tactical work.
“That’s all we do every day. If we’re working on our fitness, we’re still trying to play our football.
“If you’re talking about do we do training where we’re standing around and working on how we’re going to stop an opposition, no we don’t do that. But I don’t think that’s the only kind of tactical work that exists. Anyone who trains with us will tell you that all we do is train the way we play. Maybe that’s not tactical work, I don’t know!” – Express Newspapers
