NASA opens its scientific research to the public

-

All the research conducted by the American Space Agency, NASA will be made available for free on the web. This move is intended to attract more science enthusiasts and astronauts in understanding better our planet and have full access to the relevant information. It should also provide an easier dissemination of information amongst the public.

This move should be followed by something similar in Europe. In fact, the European Union has said that all its research should be available for free as from the year 2020. This reform, which has been ordered by the European Union’s Science Chief, Carlos Moedas, will make it possible to have all the results of publicly funded research available for free and reusable by anyone.

NASA has taken this step to open the access to its extensive scientific and technical research in order for the general public to join in the exploration of the Earth, space and whatever is in it. This was part of a political pledge that had been made by the Obama administration who had asked several agencies like NASA to open their doors of research to the public.

This information will be made available through the web portal NASA PubSpace. In fact, beginning with the research funded in 2016, all the NASA funded research will be uploaded on the portal. However, some material will be restricted due to security isues. The portal will be fully functional by the end of 2016.
