Qormi turn de­feat into vic­tory

A very keen game watched by a size­able crowd at the Ra­bat Ground. Qormi dom­i­nated the pro­ceed­ings for long stretches and threa­t­end from the very first whis­tle.

Ale­an­dro Garzia was fouled out­side the area and De­nil­son Borg drove slightly high from the free kick. Matthew Man­gion then served De­nil­son Borg with a cross from the right and he missed the far post from his header. The same Borg set Nathan Sul­tana who missed the up­right from out­side the area.

Mel­lieha opened the score on 30 min­utes against the run of play as Miguel Mif­sud re­leased Miguel Camil­leri in the area and the lat­ter scored with a low di­ag­o­nal drive past Qormi keeper Kras­simir Zam­mit.

In an­other ac­tion by Qormi De­nil­son Borg was fouled out­side the area but Garzia missed the up­right from the free kick.

Just be­fore the in­ter­val Qormi equalised as they won a cor­ner kick on the right flank and Miguel Xuereb scored with a header past help­less Mel­lieha keeper Mark Cu­ta­jar.

The pres­sure by Qormi re­sumed af­ter the re­sump­tion. Xuereb missed the far post from the left flank af­ter drib­bling past an op­po­nent. Then Man­gion was fouled out­side the area but Cu­ta­jar saved the free kick by Garzia in two at­tempts.

Later the goalie saved a header by Xuereb af­ter a Garzia cross from the right and also turned to cor­ner a shot by Garzia af­ter the lat­ter was put through in the area by Man­gion.

In the 63rd minute Qormi scored a sec­ond goal as Man­gion re­leased Garzia on the edge of the area who net­ted with a hard ris­ing shot.

was also cre­ated by Qormi as Man­gion drove over the bar af­ter Garzia was fouled out­side the area.
