Qormi turn defeat into victory

A very keen game watched by a sizeable crowd at the Rabat Ground. Qormi dominated the proceedings for long stretches and threatend from the very first whistle.

Aleandro Garzia was fouled outside the area and Denilson Borg drove slightly high from the free kick. Matthew Mangion then served Denilson Borg with a cross from the right and he missed the far post from his header. The same Borg set Nathan Sultana who missed the upright from outside the area.

Mellieha opened the score on 30 minutes against the run of play as Miguel Mifsud released Miguel Camilleri in the area and the latter scored with a low diagonal drive past Qormi keeper Krassimir Zammit.

In another action by Qormi Denilson Borg was fouled outside the area but Garzia missed the upright from the free kick.

Just before the interval Qormi equalised as they won a corner kick on the right flank and Miguel Xuereb scored with a header past helpless Mellieha keeper Mark Cutajar.

The pressure by Qormi resumed after the resumption. Xuereb missed the far post from the left flank after dribbling past an opponent. Then Mangion was fouled outside the area but Cutajar saved the free kick by Garzia in two attempts.

Later the goalie saved a header by Xuereb after a Garzia cross from the right and also turned to corner a shot by Garzia after the latter was put through in the area by Mangion.

In the 63rd minute Qormi scored a second goal as Mangion released Garzia on the edge of the area who netted with a hard rising shot.

The last action before the end

was also created by Qormi as Mangion drove over the bar after Garzia was fouled outside the area.
