Sirens win seven-goal thriller against Stars

Sirens claimed their second victory of the season beating Vittoriosa Stars in seven-goal thriller.

Vittoriosa were the better team in the first half with Sirens defender clearing off the goal line.

However Vittoriosa went ahead on fifteen minutes through Liam Gauci, with the same player doubling the score for the Stars seven minutes later.

Just before the break a Dion Fava own goal put Sirens back in business.

But seven minutes into the second half Vittoriosa rebuilt their two-goal cushion when Leighton Grech scored a good goal after some good work from Obiefule.

The match looked dead and buried, but Sirens had different ideas with their never say die attitude giving its dividebd in the end.

Their comeback started on 66 minutes when their best player Christian Caruana pulled one back with a fierce drive after being served by Newuche.

Vittoriosa went in disarray after suffering this goal, and five minutes later Sirens drew level when from a Miguel Ciantar freekick Jonas Ekani Rodrigues was on hand to head the ball home.

Sirens kept pushing forard in search of the winner, which they obtained four minutes from time thanks to another header by Christian Caruana following another freekick by Ciantar.

The Stars’ misery was complete as they finished the match with ten players when Gianluca Sultana received his second booking.
