Sirens win seven-goal thriller against Stars

Sirens claimed their sec­ond vic­tory of the sea­son beat­ing Vit­to­riosa Stars in seven-goal thriller.

Vit­to­riosa were the bet­ter team in the first half with Sirens de­fender clear­ing off the goal line.

How­ever Vit­to­riosa went ahead on fif­teen min­utes through Liam Gauci, with the same player dou­bling the score for the Stars seven min­utes later.

Just be­fore the break a Dion Fava own goal put Sirens back in business.

But seven min­utes into the sec­ond half Vit­to­riosa re­built their two-goal cush­ion when Leighton Grech scored a good goal after some good work from Obiefule.

The match looked dead and buried, but Sirens had dif­fer­ent ideas with their never say die at­ti­tude giving its di­videbd in the end.

Their come­back started on 66 min­utes when their best player Chris­tian Caru­ana pulled one back with a fierce drive after be­ing served by Newuche.

Vit­to­riosa went in dis­ar­ray after suf­fer­ing this goal, and five min­utes later Sirens drew level when from a Miguel Ciantar free­kick Jonas Ekani Ro­drigues was on hand to head the ball home.

Sirens kept push­ing forard in search of the win­ner, which they ob­tained four min­utes from time thanks to another header by Chris­tian Caru­ana fol­low­ing another free­kick by Ciantar.

The Stars’ mis­ery was com­plete as they fin­ished the match with ten play­ers when Gian­luca Sul­tana re­ceived his sec­ond book­ing.
