18, 19-year-olds admit to having sex with underage girls

Two young men, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, both from Marsa, yesterday admitted to having had sex with underage girls earlier this year.

18-year-old Elton Meli was charged with defiling a 13-yearold girl and participating in sexual acts with her. His friend, 19-year-old Jason Mamo, was charged with participating in sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl.

A court heard how the two men picked up the girls in Santa Lucija and then drove in two cars towards Marsa, where they split up. The girls later told social workers from Appoġġ that they had had sex with the men. A police report was then filed.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale considered the men’s clean police record when he placed Mr Meli on probation for two and a half years and Mr Mamo for two years.

Inspector Joseph Busuttil prosecuted. Lawyer Robert Galea appeared for Mr Meli. Dr David Farrugia Sacco defended Mr Mamo.
