Malta ready to face Latvia tomorrow

- Domenic Aquilina

The Malta Under-21 side will today be facing Latvia in a UEFA Under-21 championship Group 1 qualifying match at the Hibernians Stadium, kick off time at 18:00 hours. Malta stand bottom of Group 1 with 5 points from 8 matches played. On the other hand Latvia stand just a point above Malta having played the same number of matches. “As always we are prepared hundred per cent for this match. We have studied our opponents very well and we know we have no easy matches. We could have easily snatched a draw in our last match against Belgium but it was not to be. Very interesting to note that the only two sides in our group who have scored twice against leaders of the group Belgium were Montenegro and Malta, so this confirms our great performance against the Belgians. We will again be missing Luke Montebello who again has sustained an injury but I am sure that our opponents are prepared as much as we are so this should augur a good match tomorrow” stated Malta Under21 head coach Silvio Vella ahead of this match Valletta midfielder Llywelyn Cremona also commented about Malta’s expectations tomorrow and the possibility of snatching that elusive point that this side has been after in order to get into the record books of Maltese football as the first ever Malta national team to get over the 5-point mark qualifying level. “We always take the field looking for the three points – no matter what – then if a point arrives well it is more than welcome. But again as our coach has just stated we feel we are very well prepared and ready to go for tomorrow’s match against Latvia” Silvio Vella also confirmed that key Hibernians midfielder Johann Bezzina is definitely out from tomorrow’s match through injury and is getting the necessary treatment in order to get him fit for Tuesday’s match at home against Moldova at the same venue.
