Draw in pulsating encounter in game of the week

In the game of the week St Lucia and St Venera Lightnings drew 2-2 in a pulsating encounter at the Sirens Stadium.

St Venera went ahead after just 40 seconds through Dylan Mercieca but St Lucia turned the game around with two goals by Alex Cauchi on 13 and 18 minutes. Nigel Refalo equalised for St Venera nine minutes from time.

Luqa St Andrew’s continued climbing up the table when they beat Ta’ Xbiex in the first match at the Luxol Stadium. Andrew Sciortino put Luqa ahead after 45 minutes with Jethron Azzopardi equalising for Ta’ Xbiex on 72 minutes. Leroy Bonnett scored the winning goal for Luqa on 86 minutes.

Kalkara maintained their 100% record when they beat Mdina Knights by two goals to nil in the first match at the Charles Abela Stadium. Ryan Sell put Kalkara ahead after 52 minutes from the penalty spot with Jonathan Scerri sealing the issue on 83 minutes.

Msida St Joseph also moved to the top of the table alongside Kalkara when they easily beat Xghajra Tornadoes by three goals to nil in the second match at the Sirens Stadium.

Zamora Dario scored a brace with Glanville Goodlip adding another midway through the second half. Dingli Swallows crushed Marsaskala, who are firmly in bottom place with no points, by four goals to nil.

Luke Galea scored a brace for Dingli with the other goals coming through Kayne Said and Andrew Scerri.

In the South Western derby, Kirkop United beat Zurrieq by three goals to nil. The goals came from Fabian Fonseca, Karl Caruana and Fabian Caruana.
