A very keen and action-packed game which Floriana deservedly won as they created more scoring chances than Melita. The game was watched by a sizeable crowd at Mosta Ground,

The game was only five minutes old when Floriana took the lead after a choral move between three players. Jake Mallia Phyall outsped two opponents on the right flank and crossed to Mattia Zarb in the area who passed the ball to Bradley Sciberras for the latter to score with a close-range rising shot past Melita keeper Andrew Pizzuto.

In another action by Floriana, Mallia Phyall released Dylan Mifsud on the right flank but the ball was cleared away following his dangerous cross.

In the 16th minute Melita equalised as Adam Randon scored direct from a free kick with a rising shot from 30 metres.

The pressure from Floriana resumed. A flag kick by Sciberras created havoc in Melita’s area and the ball was cleared away with difficulty. Zarb served Agius with a through ball in the area but he drove slightly over the bar.

Zarb then served Dario Mentosa with a good pass and he missed the upright from outside the area.

In the last action before the break Sciberras released Zarb on the right edge of the area and his lobbed ball missed the far post by inches.

In the first action after the resumption, Agius served Zarb with a through ball in the area but he missed the upright. Agius was then fouled on the right flank and from the free kick by Sciberras the ball missed the near post.

Melita then won a free kick as Jeremy Attard was fouled outside the area and the shot by Liam Delicata created havoc in the Greens area but the ball was cleared away to safety.

In the 68th minute Floriana scored a second goal when Zarb received the ball from a goal kick by keeper Christopher Farrugia in Melita’s half and as he sprinted in the area he scored with a hard low grounder.

In the second minute of added time the same player put the issue beyond any doubt as he was put through in the area by Agius and again scored with a low hard drive.
