21st edition of the MFCC Weddings and Events Exhibition opens its doors

-

170 exhibitors – classic names and five-star hotels mixed with newcomers to the sector – are coming together to bring the best and the latest in weddings and events organisation.

1000 foreigners get married in Malta every year (total number of weddings around 3000).

While around half of them are living in Malta the other half choose our country as a wedding destination.

Minister of Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis, and MTA CEO Paul Bugeja inaugurated the fair and toured the impressive fair in what the organisers hope to be a move in the right direction, for the government to step up the promotion of Malta as a wedding destination.

The sector is huge, it is well prepared and is giving an excellent service without any need for further investment by the government. All it needs is to take advantage of an existing opportunity and bring more tourists to Malta by promoting it as the best wedding destination in Europe.

Economically, such a large sector needs the influx of additional foreign weddings to compensate for the relatively small number of local weddings. The numerous service providers include vast categories of businesses such as venues, caterers, bridal wear, cars, make-up and hair styling, video and photography, jewellery and flowers, souvenirs and wedding stationery, music and entertainment, planners and organisers, travel and many other related products and services.

Many artists and crafts persons are engaged in the wedding sector which showcases their sartorial, culinary, and other creative talents which would otherwise go unexploited.

The investments by exhibitors can be witnessed at MFCC through the beautiful artistic stands. The standard is very high and a wedding could be organised in a weekend, thus saving couples precious time going around from one supplier to the other all around Malta. The choices for couples are numerous.

The fair organisation is also a platform for many ancillary services such as media, designing and printing, stand contractors and riggers, publicity and promotion, sales and security amongst others.
