St. Andrews win keen game

- Victor Ciangura St Andrews: Mosta:

St. Andrews Mosta 2 1

A very entertaining, fast and keen game as both teams had their very good moments. The game was watched by a large crowd at the Luxol Ground.

The first threat came from Mosta when Calvin Camilleri was fouled on the left edge of the area and after the same player’s free kick, Miguel Aquilina headed slightly over the bar.

St. Andrews reacted. Jamie sixsmith released Alexander Satariano in the area but Mosta keeper Kyle Zammit foiled him with a timely sortie. Marcus Grima then served Sixsmith on the edge of the area and he drove slightly over the bar.

In another action by Mosta, Liam Portelli dribbled past three opponents on the left flank and after entering the area St. Andrews keeper Duncan Formosa partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away.

In the 21st minute St. Andrews opened the score as Grima released Satariano in the area after dribbling past an opponent and he netted with a hard low drive.

Two minutes later in a Mosta attack Camilleri released Jordan Vella on the edge of the area and he was tripped from behind by a defender but the referee waved play on.

Mosta restored equilibrium in the 24th minute when Matthias Formosa released Portelli on the left flank who then crossed to Jordan Vella in the area who scored with a diagonal low shot.

Their joy was, however, shortlived as three minutes later St. Andrews regained their slender lead when Lee Attard dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and set Satariano free in the area who again scored with a low shot.

In the last action before the break Mosta player Calvin Camilleri was shown the yellow card for simulating a foul in the penalty area.

The first action after restart was created by Mosta when Vella was fouled outside the area and after the free kick by Portelli was partly cleared the same player drove out from the rebound, at the other end, Adam Magri Overend was fouled outside the area and Zammit saved in two attempts the free kick by the same player, and later also saved in two attempts a shot by Samuel Barthet from the left edge of the area after a cross by Sixsmith.

In another action by Mosta Miguel Aquilina dribbled past two opponents on the left flank who then crossed the ball to Camilleri and Formosa denied him with a diving save and he did likewise moments later as he saved a free kick shot by Camilleri after a foul on the same player.

Seven minutes before the end St. Andrews came very close to add a third goal when Grima released substitute Matteo Sansone in the area and the ball thumped the bar from his hard drive with Attard beaten and finished out of play.
