Eight-goal thriller

This game not only produced eight goals but also very attractive football by both sets of players and the game was watched by a large crowd at Luxol Ground.

The early pressure was mounted by St Andrew. Russell Micallef pounced on a faulty clearance and Mosta keeper Daniel Grima saved his shot from outside the area. Sebastian Cassar Torregiani dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and crossed the ball in the area to Andrea Galea and Grima saved his shot with a diving save.

In the 13th minute St Andrew opened the score when Jordan Kelly set Mattia Veselji through in the area and after he was pushed the same player made no mistake from the penalty spot by sending Grima the wrong way of the ball, and three minutes later Mosta equalised as Matteo Vella was fouled on the left flank and after the free kick by Andrew Camilleri, Vella was tripped in the area and the same player made no mistake from the spot by beating keeper Sebastian Spiteri with a low shot.

In another Mosta action Vella released Gabrial Sant on the right flank and Spiteri neutralised the ball from his cross.

In the 28th minute St Andrew regained their slender lead when Kelly set Veselji through in the area and he scored with a hard low shot, and in the 31st minute the score became 3-1 as Veselji served Andrea’ Galea with a through ball in the area and he scored with a hard rising shot.

A minute before the break Mosta reduced the gap from the penalty spot as Camilleri put Vella through in the area and after he was pushed he made no mistake from the spot to make it 2-3.

Six minutes after restart Mosta equalised as Sant served Vella with a cross in the area and he scored with a header to make it 3-3, and hardly a minute later St Andrew scored a fourth goal as Russell Micallef dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and then served Veselji in the area who scored with a low drive.

The score became 5-3 in the 44th minute when Kelly dribbled past an opponent and then set Veselji throguh in the area and he scored with a hard low shot. St Andrew keeper Spiteri saved a hard drive from outside the area by Azriel Borg and later he had to tip the ball over the bar following a rising shot by Vella from the edge of the area after an Ishmael Galea through ball. In the last action before the end by St Andrew Veselji served substiute Anthony Mifsud with a cross from the right flank and he drove slightly over the bar.
