Mum with Maltese surname caught having sex with boy, 14

-

A mum-of-two with a Maltese surname who was caught having sex with a 14-year-old boy has avoided jail in Scotland because she was “very, very drunk”.

A relative of the teenage schoolboy stumbled upon Angela Gatt in the act after a boozy night.

The 37-year-old had knocked back prosecco and the boy had been drinking alcopops, the Daily Record reported.

Neither Gatt nor her victim can remember anything about the incident, which happened in summer 2015.

When the boy’s relative walked in and found him on top of her, he fled the room. Cleaner Gatt asked the relative: “What’s your problem?” and was reminded of his age.

Ms Gatt, of Dalrymple, Ayrshire, was set to face trial in September but admitted one count of sexual activity with a child.

Her lawyer said she was “brave” for pleading guilty to her crime.

She was visiting a house in Cumbria when the tryst took place and claims she had drank too much to recall events, the Mirror reported.

Prosecutor Virginia Hayton told Carlisle Crown Court that after being caught naked with the boy on top of her, Gatt fell and injured herself, so paramedics and police were called to the scene.

The victim is said to be embarrassed and has had the “mickey took out of him” by his friends since the incident.

Judge Barbara Forrester said that the relative had caught her in the act.

Judge Forrester told Gatt: “There is a disparity of age, a serious breach of trust and you had both drunk alcohol but I accept you did not provide it to him. What happened after that, we will never know.”

She handed Gatt a 20-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

The judge made Gatt subject to a sexual harm prevention order, put her on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and ordered her to pay £1,000 costs.
