Stubborn Zebbug prove a point

A stubborn defensive display from Zebbug dented Sebglea’s aspirations to join Mqabba at the top of the standings.

Senglea dominated the first half for long stretches but at the end of the firsst fourty five minutes thay had nothing or little to show for their constant pressure.

On three miniutes a Ryan Dalli shot on the turn was stopped by the crossbar and minutes later from a Ryan Dalli freekick, Juninho Cabral had a good control of the match but his effort sailed over the bar.

Zebbug’s only shot at goal came half way through the first half with Aaron Agius’ shot well over the bar. On 28 minutes Christian Cassar’s effort slightly missed the upright.

In the dying minutes Ryan Dalli had a good scoring opportunity when he received a good ball from the left from Dias, but his weak effort from ideal position was easily saved by Azzopardi.

On the resumption Senglea continued to dictate matters with Azzopardi saving a Sammut grounder. On 55 minutes Azzopardi made a great save off a Guzman header following a corner taken by Dias. On 67 minutes Dalli failed to connect in front of goal following a good run by Dias, who was leter substituted.

Thirteen minutes from time Senglea went close again with a Ryan Dalli point blank effort blocked by Azzopardi.
