St Venera consolidat­e top place with fine win

St Venera Lightnings confirmed their status at the top of the BOV Division Three table with a fine 2-0 win over Zurrieq in the second match at the Sirens Stadium.

Tyrone Grech opened the scoring after 39 minutes with Danjel Vasic adding another 13 minutes from time.

Kalkara also maintained their unbeaten run with a slender 1-0 victory over Mtarfa. The winning goal came from a Timmy Thomas penalty after 14 minutes.

Xghajra Tornados registered their second win on the trot when they beat Dingli Swallows by two goals to nil in the first match at the Luxol Stadium. Dylan Busuttil opened the scoring on 50 minutes with Reuter Degiorgio adding another on 75 minutes.

Mdina Knights returned to winning ways with a hard fought victory over Ta’ Xbiex in the first match at the Sirens Stadium. Dylan Mintoff opened the scoring on the half hour but Ta’ Xbiex equalised through Joel Felice while Matthew Fenech scored the winner for Mdina on 52 minutes.

In an action packed match at the Luxol Stadium, St Lucia and Msida St Joseph shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Sebastian Perdomo put St Lucia ahead on 17 minutes but two goals by Darren Caruana on 26 and 67 minutes turned the match around in favour of Msida. However, four minutes later, substitute Milan Milovijiev scored the equaliser for St Lucia.

Luqa St Andrews edged out bottom placed side Marsaskala in an exciting 3-2 victory although the Saints should have put the match to bed far earlier. Dennis Sytnik and Leroy Bonnett put Luqa two goals ahead but Jurgen Cachia and Salah Hamed, from the penalty spot, equalized for Marsaskala. Jason Good scored the winner for Luqa on 71 minutes.
