First group of coaches ob­tain Level 1 cer­tifi­cate

The Malta Sea Kayak Club (pop­u­larly known as Seakats) proudly an­nounces the cer­ti­fi­ca­tion of the first group of 10 lo­cally de­vel­oped coaches with a Bri­tish Canoe Union (BCU) Level 1 Cer­tifi­cate in Coach­ing Pad­dle­sport.

Seakats are now em­pow­ered to lo­cally train and cer­tify per­sons of all ages for the in­ter­na­tion­ally recog­nised Bri­tish Kayak­ing and Ca­noe­ing 1 Star qual­i­fi­ca­tion. Seakats will also start of­fer­ing Pad­dle­power Awards that are aimed at en­cour­ag­ing young peo­ple to start pad­dle­sport and in the near fu­ture more starter op­tions spe­cialised in other com­pet­i­tive and non-com­pet­i­tive dis­ci­plines will be­come avail­able.

The Seakats com­mit­tee would like to thank BCU coaches Phil Hadley and Rich Witheridge for their ser­vices, the man­age­ment of Al Fresco Restau­rant, Birzeb­buga for their sup­port dur­ing the as­sess­ment and the 10 vol­un­teers that ded­i­cated their time and re­sources to be­come BCU qual­i­fied coaches.

This ex­cit­ing devel­op­ment will help make pad­dle­sport more ac­ces­si­ble on our is­lands. Kayak­ing and ca­noe­ing are ex­cel­lent ac­tiv­i­ties that help pro­mote a healthy life­style and they can be prac­tised safely in many lo­ca­tions on our shores, through­out the year.
