First group of coaches obtain Level 1 certificate

-

The Malta Sea Kayak Club (popularly known as Seakats) proudly announces the certification of the first group of 10 locally developed coaches with a British Canoe Union (BCU) Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Paddlesport.

Seakats are now empowered to locally train and certify persons of all ages for the internationally recognised British Kayaking and Canoeing 1 Star qualification. Seakats will also start offering Paddlepower Awards that are aimed at encouraging young people to start paddlesport and in the near future more starter options specialised in other competitive and non-competitive disciplines will become available.

The Seakats committee would like to thank BCU coaches Phil Hadley and Rich Witheridge for their services, the management of Al Fresco Restaurant, Birzebbuga for their support during the assessment and the 10 volunteers that dedicated their time and resources to become BCU qualified coaches.

This exciting development will help make paddlesport more accessible on our islands. Kayaking and canoeing are excellent activities that help promote a healthy lifestyle and they can be practised safely in many locations on our shores, throughout the year.

Anybody interested can contact Seakats at seakats.malta@gmail.com and/or join the Seakats Facebook page.
