UK For­eign Sec­re­tary Boris John­son to visit Malta to­day

Bri­tish For­eign Sec­re­tary Boris John­son will be vis­it­ing Malta to­day, The Malta In­de­pen­dent has learnt.

Asked to con­firm, the Bri­tish High Com­mis­sion said that it can­not com­ment about the trav­els of the Bri­tish For­eign Sec­re­tary.

How­ever, sources say his trav­els to Malta were planned be­fore­hand, but the ac­tual date was never con­firmed.

This news­room has a copy of an in­vi­ta­tion for a re­cep­tion which will take place to­day at the Bri­tish High Com­mis­sion’s res­i­dence in San Pawl tat-Tarġa. Mr John­son will be the main guest at the event.

Mr John­son was one of the big­gest sup­port­ers of Brexit. He used to serve as mayor of London and was touted to be­come UK’s new Prime Min­is­ter af­ter David Cameron re­signed when the re­sult of the Brexit ref­er­en­dum be­came known.

How­ever, John­son de­cided to with­draw from the race and Theresa May was later elected UK’s new Prime Min­is­ter.
