Mark Mi­callef nails it at Xaghra Hill­climb

Is­land Car Club's 2nd round of 2016/17 Hill­climb Cham­pi­onship took place at Xaghra, Gozo.

The weather was tol­er­a­bly warm with a breeze and by 8am all 54 par­tic­i­pants were ready for ac­tion.

Road con­di­tions proved to be slip­pery in the 1st two prac­tice runs , how­ever on the 3rd and 4th run com­peti­tors were quickly shav­ing sec­onds off their pre­vi­ous runs.

Fastest of the day and over­all win­ner was Mark Mi­callef in his Avon Tyres Turbo charged Rad­i­cal stop­ping the clock at an im­pres­sive 48.613, fol­lowed by Zach Zam­mit in his Ur­ban Jun­gle Em­pire Evo clock­ing 49.222 whilst de­fend­ing cham­pion Keith Camil­leri in his Fracht Malta Rad­i­cal came in 3rd hit­ting the clock at close 49.351.

Fastest front wheel drive went to Di­dier Bugeja in his im­mac­u­lately re­freshed Group 3 Snow White Meat Mar­ket Peu­geot 106 cross­ing the line in 56.425 whilst Noel Galea took the hon­ours for fastest rwd in his im­pres­sively built Bar­dahl Oil Ford Es­cort mk 2 in a time of 53.872. Steve Bal­dacchino won the fastest 4wd with his Subaru Im­preza stop­ping the clock at 57.821.

Teddy Aquilina won fastest vet­eran in his highly mod­i­fied Ford es­cort mk 1 cos­worth clock­ing a good time of 57.879.

Clas­sic cars also had their fair share of com­pe­ti­tion leav­ing Mark Borg in his Alfa GTA mod­i­fied quick­est of the clas­sics whilst An­drea Sci­cluna took the hon­ours for au­tocross group.

Gne­jna will be the lo­ca­tion of the 3rd round of Is­land Car Club's cham­pi­onship on 13 Novem­ber at 9am.
