Stripes too strong for Hamrun

The final result is a clear indication of the difference between the two teams. Ħamrun had only a few good moments while Birkirkara dictated matters for long stretches.

Ħamrun are now on 3 points from two games while Birkirkara are on 4 points also from two games.

The game was hardly a minute old when Birkirkara came close to open the score when Ayrton Attard was fouled outside the area and after Karl Caruana’s free kick Ħamrun keeper Clint Borg had to dive and save a closerange shot by Attard.

The Stripes missed a good opportunit­y in the 9th minute when Caruana skied the ball with only Ħamrun keeper Clint Borg to beat after a cross by Lian Formosa.

Birkirkara opened the score in the 23rd minute as Michele Vella set Caruana free in the area after dribbling past an opponent and scored with a low drive. Minutes later Borg had to dive and save a shot by Attard from the left edge of the area after a through pass by Neil Friggieri.

Ħamrun reacted and Jamie Carabott pounced on a faulty clearance and Sylla had to dive and save his long distance shot.

Seven minutes after the restart Birkirkara doubled their lead when Paul Mbong dribbled past an opponent outside the area and passed the ball to Attard in the area who scored with a hard low drive. Four minutes later the score became 3-0 as Mbong scored with a hard rising shot from inside the area.

In the 56th minute Birkirkara scored a fourth goal through Attard who entered the area after dribbling past an opponent and scored with a low shot.

Between the 61st and 66th minutes Birkirkara added two more goals to make it 6-0. Zammit Lonardelli set Attard free in the area who again netted with a low drive and Christian Mula then scored with a hard low drive.

In the last action before the end

Ħamrun won a corner kick on the left flank which was taken by Friggieri but Sylla saved a header by Higgans.
