Qormi man who ‘assaulted’ bus driver in San Ġwann identified and interviewed by police

-

The police have confirmed that they have identified and interviewed a man who was involved in a fight with a bus driver on Friday afternoon.

The 28-year-old Qormi man was filmed wrestling with a bus driver he had allegedly dragged off a bus in San Ġwann.

According to reports the man was fuming when the two vehicles almost hit each other. One of two videos of the incident shows the burly 28-year-old trying to smash the driver’s head against the side of the bus.

The incident, which lasted a couple of minutes, stopped traffic from both directions. It is understood that the aggressor eventually let the bus driver go and fled the scene.

Malta Public Transport said yesterday it was very disturbed by the incident. “We have spoken to the driver, who has been referred to the polyclinic although he does not appear to be suffering from serious injuries.

The CCTV footage is being downloaded and will be forwarded to the police to assist with their investigations. As usual, Malta Public Transport will be cooperating fully with the relevant authorities.”

A police spokesperson could not say whether the 28-year-old was being held in custody but confirmed that he had been identified and “spoken to”.
