Jorge Lorenzo breaks own pole record at Va­len­cia Moto GP

Jorge Lorenzo broke his own track record yes­ter­day to claim pole po­si­tion for the sea­son-end­ing Va­len­cia Moto Grand Prix.

Lorenzo will start from the front of the grid for to­day's race, which is the for­mer three-time cham­pion's last event be­fore leav­ing team Yamaha to join ri­val Du­cati.

Lorenzo low­ered his own mark at the track in Ch­este with a fly­ing lap of 1 minute, 29.401 sec­onds — 0.6 sec­onds faster than his own record from 2015.

It was the Spa­niard's 39th ca­reer pole in the top cat­e­gory.

Mo­toGP cham­pion Marc Mar­quez had the sec­ond fastest

time, fol­lowed by Valentino Rossi.

Moto2 cham­pion Jo­hann Zarco took pole in the in­ter­me­di­ate cat­e­gory, while Aron Canet won his first ca­reer pole in Moto3.
