In­gol­stadt pick Maik Walpur­gis as coach

Strug­gling Bun­desliga club In­gol­stadt has picked a Bun­desliga novice as its new coach.

Maik Walpur­gis last coached third-divi­sion Osnabrueck, where he was fired in Au­gust 2015.

In­gol­stadt said yes­ter­day that Walpur­gis signed a con­tract un­til mid-2018.

The club fired Markus Kauczin­ski last Sun­day and ap­pointed Michael Henke as act­ing coach un­til find­ing a long-term so­lu­tion.

In­gol­stadt is next to last in the Bun­desliga with two points from 10 rounds.

The club said Walpur­gis was a "very am­bi­tious coach with a clear phi­los­o­phy."
