Heavy rainfall causes abondonment

This game at Mġarr Ground was played under a continious rainfall and both sets of players were soken-wet after the first period. Żurrieq were the first to threaten. Saviour Tabone released Atheos Spiteri on the right flank and a defender cleared the ball away following his dangerous cross and after a Theon Camilleri flag kick the ball was partly cleared outside the area and Tabone drove out from the rebound. Marsaskala reacted and mounted three actions. Lydon Pisani dribbled past two opponents on the left flank and after entering the area Żurrieq keeper Anson Saliba partly saved his shot and a defender cleared away the danger. Ryan Micallef Garzia square-passed the ball to Jake Eady and after Saliba partly saved his shot from the distance a defender cleared the ball away to safety and Micallef Garzia set Kerstin Mercieca through in the area and he missed the upright by inches. Żurrieq then mounted the last action before the break as Edan Darmanin was fouled on the right edge of the area and Marsaskala keeper Duane Lofreda saved in two attempts the free kick shot by Spiteri. Six minutes after restart Marsaskala opened the score when Mercieca pounced on a faulty clearance and after entering the area he dribbled past the onrushing Saliba and scored with a tap-in and in another action in the 43rd minute Pisani served Mercieca with a through ball in the area and a defender cleared the ball to a corner which was taken by Elton Cachia and Saliba saved a header by Eady. In the 45 th minute Referee Andre’ Pavia abondoned the game because of the continious rainfall.
