Stars outclass Melita

Vittoriosa continued their surge forward in the table with an impressive victory over a sorry Melita side. Vittoriosa were the better team hands down and could have even obtained a bigger victory as thgey confirmed their good patch after their important victory against Mqabba.

Vittoriosa forged ahead on 17 minutes when Melita defender Michael Cachia headed past his own goalkeeper in an attempt to clear.

Five minutes from the break Vittoriosa missed another good opportunit­y when Arber Dhrami passed to Leighton Grech who failed to connect. On 45 minutes Vittoriosa were again unlucky when in a fast break Leighton Grech dribbled past Grima but his effort hit the base of the upright.

On the resumption Melita went close with a Cornago low drive that missed the base of the upright but Vittoriosa sealed the issue with two quick goals scored by Leighton Grech and Liam Gauci on 56 and 58 minutes.

The game was dead and buried, Vittoriosa were in full control and Leighton Grech added a fourth half way through the second half. Six minutes from time Melita were reduced to ten players when Kurt Pace was sent off for dissent.
