Christmas in Mellieħa

The Mellieħa Local Council will be organising its annual activity Christmas in Mellieħa between Thursday, 8 and Tuesday, 13 December. This activity, organised with the support of the Malta Tourism Authority and the local commercial community, will see the peak of activities held in Misraħ iż-Żjara tal-Papa from 7.30pm onwards.

This year’s edition will be inaugurate­d at the Manikata Parish Church on Thursday, 8 December. A concert by Joy Gospel Singers will be held for the opening of this activity as well as for the inaugurati­on of yet another EU project. In fact the Mellieħa Local Council has once again succeeded in obtaining funds to be the lead partner in an EU project which envisages the organisati­on of five conference­s spread over 18 months. This project, with a budget of €150,000, will focus on small enterprise­s in the heart of the Union’s economy.

All activities related to Christmas in Mellieħa will be organised at Misraħ iż-Żjara tal-Papa Ġwanni Pawli II. The activity will be organised in a form of a small Christmas village from where various typical Maltese and Christmas products will be sold by local NGOs. All stalls will be open at 7pm and will see a full programme of activities from the best local talent as well as internatio­nal artists.

The Għaqda Korali and Orkestrali Maria Bambina, Società Filarmonic­a La Vittoria and Malcolm & Band will be offering a musical spectacle on Friday, 9 December. The Red Hackled Pipe Band will be closing the show for the day. A dancing spectacle will be offered by Artemocion on the following day followed by other musical performanc­es this time by Għaqda Mużikali Imperial and JAMM Band together with other local singers. Various local participan­ts will be performing the following day with the popular Animae Gospel Choir closing the evening.

Monday, 12 December will see the participat­ion of the Big Friends Guggen Musik, dancing school Street Elements and Brooke & Band. Activities will also include foreign participat­ion. On this day the council will also organise a Christmas party for the residents of the home Dar il-Madonna tal-Mellieħa at 9.30am. The much-anticipate­d children’s party will be held on 13 December at 2pm at the Community Hall, Mellieħa Primary School. All children interested in attending are invited to register their participat­ion with the staff of the Mellieħa Local Council.

There will be various initiative­s including dancing, art and crafts exhibition­s and a life crib prepared by children during these activities. Also sale of typical foods and drinks, synonymous with the festive season, will also be on sale. Everyone is invited to attend this Christmas activity organised by the Mellieħa Local Council. Entrance is free of charge.
