Malta at the Vatican
The Maltese crib in St Peter’s Square is now ready and will be inaugurated on 9 December. The gift by the Maltese archdiocese and the Government of Malta, the crib was created by Gozitan artist Manwel Grech, the winner of a competition among Maltese artists. It reproduces the typical Maltese landscape with the typical architecture, the flora and fauna of the Maltese islands. It is 17 metres wide, 12 metres deep and 8 metres high. One can also find in it the Maltese cross and a luzzu, the Maltese typical boat, which also brings to mind the many boats carrying migrants around Malta. The 25-metre tree is the gift of Scurelle near Trento.
