Ten-man Zebbug earn point in relegation battle
Ten-man Zebbug settled for a point against fellow relegation troubled Gharghur in a highly spectacular match which produced four goals and some other interesting goal-mouth actions.
The result leaves both sides in troubled waters with Zebbug still firmly at the bottom of the table.
Gharghur had a dream start taking the lead inside the first minute when Luke Busuttil scored with a grounder from an acute angle.
But Zebbug immediately hit back with Kurt Zammit’s deflected shot finishing at the back of the net on eight minutes.
Gharghur had more possession in the first half and Nicolau had a great chance on 25 minutes but his point blank shot was blocked by Azzopardi.
Three minutes later Azzopardi made another great save off a close range header from Da silva.
Three minutes from the break Tomislav Tredovac rounded a defender in style but his effort missed the base of the upright by a whisker.
On the other end a William Barbosa strike almost left Azzopardi staring, but the ball went just wide.
Just before the break Zebbug took the lead when Aaron Agius passed towards Dario Tabone who dribbled past goalkeeper Micallef before firing at the back of the net.
Two minutes from the restart Zebbug had another good shot with a Tredovac shot well saved by Micallef.
On 61 minutes Zebbug were dealt a severe blow when Shawn Borg was shown a straight red for a late tackle on Lee Galea. But four minutes later Tredovac almost scored a third, but Micallef was again outstanding to block.
On 68 minutes Gharghur were unlucky when a Martins da Silva shot hit the base of the upright. The onslaught continued and Gharghur drew level on 78 minutes when a William Barbosa drive from the edge of the area found the back of the net.
