Marsa shock Senglea with last gasp goal

-

Days after staging one of the biggest upsets in the FA Trophy by eliminating Hibernians, Senglea were yesterday shocked when they were beaten against all odss by Marsa, who scored their winner on 90 minutes.

The match was keenly contested with Marsa playing a diligent match especially in the second half where they had the edge over the promotion aspirants.

Senglea played better especially in the first half, but were subdued completely in the second and had to leave the pitch empty handed.

On five minutes Senglea were in front when a Juninho Cabral shot was fumbled by Caruana with the ball finishing at the back of the net.

But two minutes later Marsa were back on level terms whan goalkeeper Farrugia failed to grasp a Gilbert Martin cross and Chris Cutajar was on hand to hit the ball home.

On 18 minutes a Peter Paul Sammut fierce drive was saved by Caruana and some minutes later a Guzman header missed the target by inches.

The same Guzman should have done better on 23 minutes but he failed miserably in front of goal.

On 25 minutes Marsa went close but Cutajar failed to connect in front of goal.

Marsa were better on the field of play in the second half. Although both sides had some good scoring opportunities, both goalkeepers were rarely called in action.

Three minutes from time Lucky Omerou missed a glorious chance for Marsa after being well served by De Melo.

But on 90 minutes Marsa were not to be denied when Sakurai passed towards Steve Meilak who drilled the ball home.

Deep in stoppage time Senglea were reduced to ten men when Jamie Pace received a second booking.
