Angelo Gafa has been appointed as Malta’s first Police Corps CEO
Angelo Gafa has been appointed as the new Police Corps CEO, and was handed his letter of appointment by Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela.
His appointment came after a public call was issued a few months ago, and applicants went through a selection process, a statement by the Home Affairs Ministry said.
“Mr Gafa will be responsible for the administration of the corps, and together with the police commissioner will work to implement the vision for the corps.”
“While the commissioner will be able to dedicate more time to investigations, the CEO will focus on organisational priorities and effective management of human resources.”
Minister Abela said that this new managerial position will help modernise the structure of the corps.
Mr Gafa is 37 years old and has served in the police corps for the past 14 years.
In 2004, he was commissioned as an inspector in the economic crimes unit. Over the last three years, he was seconded to the Maltese security services, and his last post was that of assistant head.
Prior to joining the police, he served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the Armed Forces of Malta between 2001 and 2003.
He graduated with a first class honours from the University of Malta in 2001, with a BA in commerce. He also has a Masters degree with distinction in public policy and a Master of Science in security and risk management from the University of Leicester.
