FIFA wins legal case over picking Qatar as World Cup host

-

FIFA has defeated a legal challenge by trade union groups over picking Qatar as the 2022 World Cup host.

FIFA says the Commercial Court in Zurich rejected a case filed by labor activists in the Netherlands and Bangladesh on behalf of a Bangladeshi construction worker employed on a World Cup project.

The case claimed FIFA acted wrongfully in choosing Qatar without demanding reform of labor laws, and should be held liable for abuses.

Labor and human rights groups have campaigned against a system for employing hundreds of thousands of migrant workers in the gas-rich emirate.

FIFA says it "welcomes the decision" of the courts, and "will continue to urge the Qatari authorities to ensure safe and decent working conditions for construction workers." third just two minutes later, this time as Raheem Sterling conducted an adroit run in behind the defence before squaring for Silva, who made no mistake with a neat tap-in.

With the game seemingly beyond West Ham, Bilic might have urged his players to show some steel in the second period, but they soon found themselves four behind, as Sergio Aguero bagged a goal to crown him City's thirdhighest top scorer following a deft finish over Adrian in the 51st minute.

The home side's humiliation was not over just yet, though, as City returned to grab themselves a fifth goal with little over six minutes left to play, when John Stones rose highest in the box to head in a corner and earn his first goal for the club.

Chelsea's Mikel follows Oscar with China Super League move

John Obi Mikel has followed Chelsea midfielder Oscar to the Chinese Super League by leaving Stamford Bridge yesterday to join Tianjin TEDA.

The defensive midfielder made over 370 appearances in his 10 1/2 years at the London club but said it was time for a new challenge after not featuring this season under manager Antonio Conte, who has guided Chelsea to the top of the English Premier League in his first season in charge.

In a letter to "my Chelsea family" on his Twitter page, the Nigeria international said it was the right time to move with the Chinese Super League "really taking off."

"As you will know, I haven't featured as much this season as I would have liked, and at 29 I still have many years in the game ahead of me," he wrote.

"To play in the Premier League, the best league in the world, is every player's ambition. But to play for Chelsea, to become part of the Chelsea family, to work with some of the best managers and players in the world, has truly been an honour."

Mikel joined Chelsea at 19 from Norway's Lyn Oslo, and went on to win every major honor, including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the Champions League triumph of 2012.

Last month, Oscar moved to Shanghai SIPG for a reported 60 million pounds ($73.5 million), reflecting the financial clout of Chinese clubs who have lured internationals such as Brazilians Hulk, Ramires and Paulinho, Colombia striker Jackson Martinez, and Argentine Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Silva says he'll need miracle to keep Hull in EPL

New Hull manager Marco Silva said he will need to strengthen the squad if he is to perform a "miracle" and keep the last-place club in the English Premier League.

Hull has won only three out of 20 league games since winning promotion back to the top-flight, leading to Mike Phelan being fired.

"First of all, I have confidence in our players, but it's clear we need to improve our roster," said Silva, who takes charge of his first game on Saturday against Swansea in the third round of the FA Cup. "The owners know and I know what we need, but I will only speak about these players when they are with the club.

"We'll try to find solutions to try and improve the team. Of course I have targets, but it's not the moment to talk about this, it's the moment to talk about the game tomorrow."

Hull, which has given Silva a contract until the end of the season, is three points from safety.

"You need a miracle to remain in the Premier League," Silva said at his presentation on Friday. "But sometimes they happen, the miracles. Maybe in May the miracle will happen. We'll see."

Silva is no stranger to pulling off miracles. He steered Estoril to promotion to the top-flight in Portugal in his first managerial job and then to fifth and fourth-placed finishes in his next two seasons.

During his last season in charge at Estoril, the unfashionable minnows became the first side to win a league game at Porto in six years on its way to Europa League qualification. 12.30pm, GO Sports 1, Italian Serie A, Udinese-Inter Milan (live) 2.30pm, GO Sports 2, Emirates FA Cup, Liverpool-Plymouth (live) 3pm, GO Sports 3, Italian Serie A, Genoa-Roma (live) 3pm, GO Sports 4, Italian Serie A, Genoa-Roma (live) 3pm, GO Sports 5, Italian Serie A, Genoa-Roma (live) 3pm, GO Sports 6, Italian Serie A, Championship
