Fine win for Luqa SA over Dingli S

Luqa St Andrew’s continued where they left off last year with a fine win over Dingli Swallows to the tune of three goals to nil in the first match at the Centenary Stadium.

Jason Good opened the scoring on 53 minutes with Samba Camara adding a second on 85 minutes and the third goal courtesy of a 90th minute penalty by Lee Baldacchin­o.

Kalkara consolidat­ed their position at the top of the table when they easily beat Zurrieq by four goals to one. A brace by Ryan Sell on 9 and 56 minutes, another strike by Timmy Thomas on 11 minutes and a goal by Jonathan Scerri on 70 minutes were enough for Kalkara while Zurrieq temporaril­y reduced the deficit through a Radnor Farrugia penalty on 42 minutes.

Santa Venera Lightnings reignited their promotion challenge when they also beat Ta’ Xbiex by the identical score of four goals to one at the Charles Abela Stadium.

Jonathan Micallef scored twice on 17 and 33 minutes to put the Lightnings 2-0 up while Danjel Vasic added a third on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot. William Camilleri made it 4-0 on 65 minutes with Riccardo Napoli scoring a consolatio­n goal for Ta’ Xbiex a minute later.

Xghajra Tornados also continued their positive run with a fine 4-0 victory over Mtarfa in the second match at the Charles Abela Stadium.

The goals came from Anthony Barbara, Noel Tabone and a brace by Royter Degiorgio. Kirkop United smashed bottom club Marsaskala to the tune of six goals to one with the strikes coming from Michael Theuma (2), Ronald Spina (2), Kalil Rosa and Eric Zammit. Guido Canas scored a consolatio­n goal for Marsascala.

Msida St Joseph also revamped their promotion campaign with a good 3-1 victory over Mdina Knights. Glanville Goodlip put Msida ahead on 15 minutes with Ayrton Buhagiar scoring a temporary equaliser for the Knights. Msida won it through two goals by Clint Zammit on 20 and 60 minutes.
