PN leader had ‘fruitful’ meeting with Marlene Farrugia last week, more planned
Discussions between PN leader Simon Busuttil and PD leader Marlene Farrugia over the possibility of forming a coalition against Labour have proved to be “very fruitful” but it is still too early to draw conclusions, a PN spokesperson has told The Malta Independent.
He was reacting to comments by Dr Farrugia in her regular blog on The Malta Independent, in which she claimed that the PN and the Democratic Party are close to forming a deal to form a united front in fighting against the government. The idea that the PN and PD were aiming to join forces had been broken by this newspaper last 21 September.
Approached for a reaction yesterday, the PN said: “It can confirm that party leader Simon Busuttil has been meeting Dr Farrugia to discuss the possibility of setting up a coalition against corruption in the face of the most corrupt government our country has ever seen.”
The spokesperson said the most recent talks between Simon Busuttil and Marlene Farrugia took place last week and more meetings are planned to take place.
“Discussions held so far were very fruitful although it is still too early to draw conclusions. The PN welcomes the enthusiastic reaction to Simon Busuttil’s appeal for the setting up of a coalition against corruption that would work together to clean up our political system once and for all. The door remains open to whoever wishes to join forces to achieve this objective for our country.”
Dr Farrugia said yesterday that there are a few things on which we still have to agree, matters that ensure people are not deceived again as happened with the ‘moviment’ that started as Tagħna Lkoll (belonging to all of us) and turned out to be Tagħhom Biss (only theirs).
