Late goal gives Zejtun victory in top clash of weekend

In the clash of the weekend, Zejtun Corinthian­s beat San Gwann by a solitary goal scored by Alan Tabone direct from a free kick in the second match at the Luxol Stadium.

Zabbar St Patrick had an easy match against St George’s thrashing the Cospicua side by seven goals to nil in the second match at the Sirens Stadium. Shalon Diacono, Samuel Buhagiar, Kurt Cutajar, Dillon Pace and Jean Claude Cesare (3) were the scorers in this encounter. In the Friday night match, Attard and Siggiewi shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Mellieha cruised to an easy victory against fellow relegation contenders Ghaxaq whom they beat by three goals to nil at the Charles Abela Stadium.

The goals came from Lincoln Micallef on 27 minutes, Nicholas Zammit on 43 minutes and James Borg on 74 minutes.

Swieqi continued their positive run with an easy 3-0 victory over strugglers Gudja United in the first match at the Sirens Stadium.

Alan Schembri Wismayer opened the scoring on 42 minutes followed by Kenneth Ezekie on 68 and Bruno Menezes a minute from time.

The Southern derby between Birzebbuga St Peters and Marsaxlokk ended in a 1-1 draw. Andre’ Cassar gave Marsaxlokk the lead on 47 minutes but Ronnie Celeste equalised for the Saints on 65 minutes.

Qrendi continued their positive run this year with a hard fought 3-2 victory over strugglers Mgarr United in the second match at the Charles Abela Stadium.

Giovanni Galea put Qrendi ahead on 22 minutes with Dasser Sammut doubling on 27 minutes.
