Vittoriosa had an impressive start taking their opponents by storm and practically sealing the issue with two goals inside the first 25 minutes.

Senglea never fully recovered from this and Vittoriosa were always in command and never looked like giving away their comfortable lead. Robert Cassar’s boys stormed forward from the initial whistle and took the lead on ten minutes when Obinna Obiefule headed home a Christian Cassar corner.

Four minutes later Senglea’s first attempt with Obaje-Smith’s shot well saved by the alert Magri.

On 16 minutes Senglea were menacing when the ex-Floriana striker Juninho Cabral’s shot travelled across the face of goal but there was no one to connect.

On 25 minutes, Vittoriosa doubled the score when from another Christian Cassar cross, it was defender Ryan Previ who headed home giving Aquilina no chance to save. Four minutes later Vittoriosa went close a third goal with Andre Farrugia’s shot missing the upright by a whisker.

On 33 minutes another Vittoriosa scoring opportunity with Leighton Grech dribbling past goalkeeper Aquilina, but his effort at goal from ana acute angle was blocked by Rennie Tanti.

On the resumption Senglea had two penalty appeals turned down by the referee and on the other end Vittoriosa missed another glorious chance with Pisani blasting over the bar from close range.

On the hour, Aquilina saved well following a good move between Leighton Grech and Pisani. Senglea dominated the last part of the match as Steve D’Amato’s side pushed forward to crawl back in the game, but to no avail as the Vittoriosa rearguard held well to claim the victory and move to second place in the standings.
