Trebovac brace in Zebbug comeback win

Tonislav Trebovac scored a brace, a goal in each half to give Zebbug Rangers a come from behind victory against fellow strugglers Melita.

This was a precious victory for Zebbug who are now a mere point behind the same Melita in the lower end of the table.

The game never reached high standards of play but Trebovac scored two well taken goals to give Winston Muscat’s side the win that was missing for the last four outings.

Melita forged ahead after 12 minutes play when a Julian Abela close range header was blocked by Azzopardi and from the rebound Toriano Singleton slotted home from close range.

Five minutes later Borg Olivier crossed towards Axl Xuereb whose shot at goal was cleared off the goal line by a Zebbug defender.

Azzopardi came to Zebbug’s rescue half way through the first half when he blocked a Julian Abela header. Just before the break Zebbug drew level when Dario Tabone passed towards Tomislav Trebovac who managed to score a great goal with an overhead kick.

The game was rather dull on the resumption with both goalkeepers rarely called in action.

Ten minutes from time Zebbug scored a stunning winner when Tomislav Trebovac scored a gem with a shot from a distance after a fine solo run.
