Easy for Hotsticks

Lightshop Hotsticks 6 Laferla White Hart 0

Umpires: Reno Cremona, Edward Hughes

Hotsticks dominated this game from start to finish but from the 4th minute onwards did not manage to take advantage of six penalty corner awards.

To give White Hart their due, they defended solidly and the half time whistle blew with the score deadlocked at 0-0.

The second half developed into a different scenario altogether.

On 38 minutes Jonathan Borg pushed home from a penalty corner action.

Christian Sammut netted on 45 minutes to send his team into a 2-0 lead.

Borg scored his second and Hotsticks’ third on 51 minutes and three minutes later he notched his hat trick and his team’s fourth.

It must be mentioned that he has hit a rich vein of form scoring freely during his team’s last two outings.

On 68 minutes Steve Cachia added a fifth goal to the tally and just before the final whistle Julian Zahra scored giving Hotsticks a merited 6-0 victory.

Floriana Young Stars 3 Qormi Poiatti 2

Umpires: Luke Busuttil Leaver, Robert Aquilina

Young Stars atoned for last week’s defeat against Rabat and bounced back to beat Qormi by the odd goal in five in a tactical and intriguing encounter.

Both teams adopted strict manto-man marking during the early stages with defences well on top.

On 25 minutes Young Stars were awarded the first penalty corner of the match and Luke Borg Costanzi netted from close range to send his team 1-0 up.

Qormi reacted but did not avail themselves of three penalty corners before the interval, Young Stars holding onto their one goal advantage.

The second half developed into a ding dong affair with many passes going astray in midfield as the tempo and tension mounted.

On 49 minutes Borg Costanzi scored his second to send his team into a 2-0 lead.

After Young Stars fluffed a couple of penalty corner awards, on 61 minutes Qormi hit back when Keith Calleja, after a solo run from mid field, passed to Steve Tanti who picked up the pieces and scored to reduce the arrears to 2-1.

Two minutes from time Mark Camilleri increased Young Stars’ lead to 3-1 but just before the final whistle blew Kurt Grixti grabbed Qormi’s second but too late in the game to deny Young Stars their victory.
