Top match ends in draw

The game of the week between top two teams Kalkara and Santa Lucia ended in a 1-1 draw which meant that the former maintained their six point advantage with a game in hand over the latter.

Timmy Thomas gave Kalkara the lead after 31 minutes but Alexander Cauchi equalised on 81 minutes.

Luqa St Andrew’s achieved an important victory against Mdina Knights whom they beat 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Lee Baldacchin­o scored a brace, one from the penalty spot on the hour and the other in injury time.

In a match from the lower end of the table, Dingli Swallows and Mtarfa featured in a 1-1 draw. Karl Cilia put Dingli ahead from a penalty on 6 minutes but Mtarfa equalised deep in stoppage time through an own goal.

Msida St Joseph and Kirkop United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Luxol Stadium.

Andrew Formosa opened the scoring on 22 minutes from a direct free kick but Kirkop equalised 8 minutes later through Neil Cutajar.

Xghajra Tornados rose to third place with a 3-1 victory over St Venera Lightnings. Rudi Carbonaro opened the scoring on 25 minutes for St Venera but Xghajra came back strongly with goals from Reuter Degiorgio (2) and Noel Tabone. Zurrieq thrashed bottom side Marsaskala by four goals to two to continue climbing slowly up the table. Bjorn Chetcuti, Julien Iwueke, Luca Nagiah and Josef Felice scored for Zurrieq while a late brace by Nestor Silva made the score more respectabl­e for Marsaskala.
