Startup Weekend is back at SmartCity Malta!

A fun, intense, risk-free way to get a start-up off the ground

Startup Weekend is back at SmartCity Malta! And this time it’s coming with a twist, being in sync with the acceleration programme organised by MITA.

Around 60 aspiring entrepreneurs are expected to take part in the 54hour start-up marathon which kicks off on Friday, 3 March and comes to an end on Sunday, 5 March. With this attendance level, we anticipate approximately eight start-up teams to be formed.

Startup Weekend is an adrenalin rush of epic levels from the first pitch through to the last presentation. Coming in alone with an idea on Friday night and leaving on Sunday evening with a startup company and a bag full of new network contacts is a unique experience you can expect to find over this event.

SmartCity Malta will be playing a crucial role in the organisation of this event by providing a stateof-the-art infrastructure as well as crucial business and investment contacts.

Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event starting on a Friday evening with anyone pitching a startup idea. The crowd of 50+ attendees (a mix of technical, creative and business people) then vote on the best pitches. Later the teams are formed around the best ideas which then work through to the final presentation taking place on Sunday afternoon. The best teams are awarded prizes provided by the collaborating companies. The event is open to anyone interested in the local entrepreneurial community, and it puts them in a setting where anything is possible.

Over the past four years, since Startup Weekends have been organised in Malta, over 60 start-up teams have been formed and more than 300 entrepreneurs have been inspired. None of these numbers take into account the networking, ongoing professional relationships and amazing experience that take place at every event.
