Excellent performance by national team

-

The Masters national team recently produced an excellent performance in the first edition of the Malta Soccer Trophy 40+, losing only in the final after the taking of penalties.

Malta played the best football throughout and was very unfortunate to lose the final against a team that did not perform, but just defended all out, knowing that the Maltese players were superior technically and their chance was only through the penalties, which unfortunately they won.

But surely the Malta Team won the admiration of all concerned thanks to its performance.

All the players deserved the praise that came from all quarters.

In the MSVLIFE League, there were two excellent games with some high class football by theveterans.

Mosta Shaggy Pub lost their first game this season, to a determined Rabat side 5-4 after a seven game winning stretch.

Feeling the absence of their forward Mohamed Tarik, Mosta were leading 3-2 going for the break, but Rabat turned the tables in the second half with Mosta finding difficulties to calm down ‘man of the match’ Chris Muscat, who scored four goals.

In the other game, Wardija managed to get three important points after beating Dingli 8-6 in an enjoyable game with some quality football.

Wardija, still with some of its players missing through injury, returned to winning ways.

The game was very tense and the referee had to keep a firm hand throughout.

Wardija included the returning Michael Borg Olivier who was at his best giving confidence to his teammates and scoring three.

The game was balanced in the first half finishing 4-4 but in the second 30 minutes Wardija took their chances to register their seventh win in the league.

Zabbar had an easy game, beating Zurrieq Wolves 11-3.

With several regular players missing Zurrieq were no match for Zabbar who also did not have their regular squad.

Steve Aquilina and Gilbert Agius were two star players who scored four and two goals respectively.

Zabbar had already made sure before the break when they led 80. However, in the second half, they played more relaxed and allowed Zurrieq to move forward and balance the game.
