Maltese politics fall into abyss, similar to that of early 80s - PD

-

In the last few hours, the Maltese political scenario has fallen into an abyss, the like of which our nation has experienced only in the early eighties, the Partit Demokratiku said yesterday.

Endeavors by the major political parties to undermine each other publicly, while simultaneously scratching each others’ backs to cajole the public ever more convincingly, have disgusted one and all, it said in a statement.

“The little hope Maltese and Gozitan families had in the ongoing renewal of the Nationalist Party, was thrashed just as cruelly as the great trust they had put in the Labour Movement four short years ago.”

The PD said that, in this disappointing scenario it is urging the general public not to lose hope, but to look forward in establishing ever more strongly a New National People’s Force that will contest the next general election and deliver a clean, credible alternative government.

“Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is looking towards the President of the Republic and the Auditor General, to ensure that our country’s national assets and heritage are not plundered and pillaged further by the current government and its collaborators. Authority and Rule of Law needs to be re-established as soon as possible, before our country sinks deeper into the quagmire to the detriment of present and future generations,” the PD said.
