George Mifsud wins EAR trap trophy

George Mifsud won his second Trap Trophy of the season at the Southern Shooting Club when he claimed the E A R Trophy.

At the end of the qualificat­ion rounds, a three-way shoot-off between Nicky Carabott, Sean Rizzo and George Cassar all tied on 41/50 had to be shot to determine the fifth and the sixth finalists to advance to the knockout phases.

Rizzo was eliminated on his second shot while Carabott advanced taking BiB number 5 and Cassar had to wear BiB number 6. The finals results were; 1st George Mifsud 20/25 + 5/5 + 5/5 + 2/5 + 7/10, total score 39/50

2nd Paul Formosa 19/25 + 2/5 + 4/5 + 4/5 + 7/10, total score 36/50

3rd Nicky Carabott 17/25 + 5/5 + 3/5 + 3/5, total score 28/40

4th Frank Scorfna 18/25 + 3/5 + 3/5, total score 24/35

5th Clayton Carabott 17/25 + 2/5, total score 19/30

6th George Cassar 17/25, total score 17/25

The top three shooters in their respective classes concluded their two qualificat­ion rounds with the following scores: Class A 1st Paul Formosa 45/50 2nd George Mifsud 43/50 3rd Nicky Carabott 41/50 Class B 1st Frank Scorfna 42/50 – CB: 5 2nd Clayton Carabott 42/50 CB: 1

3rd George Cassar 41/50 Class C 1st Charlie Demanuele 40/50 2nd Carmel Briffa 39/50 3rd Joe Zammit 38/50 The MSSF Trap programme will continue on Saturday, 11 and Sunday, 12 March at the Bidnija Ranges with the Windhagen Trophy, being the fourth and last selection shoot for the ISSF World Cup Shotgun to be held in Larnaca Cyprus. This last selection shoot will determine which two shooters will be representi­ng Malta alongside Brian Galea later on this year in May.

Next weekend’s selection shoot will also be the second of four other selection shoots for the 17th GSSE (Games of the Small States of Europe) that will take place from 29 May to 3 June, in San Marino.
