Eurosport Pembroke-Swieqi road races to be held on 31 March

-

The 23rd edition of the Eurosport Pembroke-Swieqi road races was launched yesterday.

The event is scheduled to be held on Friday 31 March, starting and finishing at Pembroke Athleta Sports Club, Tunis Road, Pembroke.

This very popular calendar event, in which around 1,200 athletes normally take part, is promoted to all sectors of the Maltese communities who lead a healthy lifestyle or train to run on a competitive level.

Pembroke club president Victor Camilleri said yesterday the 10 km road race is on its own probably the most challenging on the islands, and is coupled with another 5 km road race event.

For those who prefer to run rather than walk, the club also holds a 7 km walkathon and this is organised in aid of Inspire.

For the young competitive athletes, two concurrent 3 km Cadet and Youth races will be held, followed by a 1.2 km Family Fun Run and walk.

During this sport manifestation a Fun Fair festival is open to all the family members.

The club president added that he was sure this year’s event will be as successful as the previous 22 editions.

He also said that trophies and money vouchers will be among the prizes to be presented at the end of the event.

Camilleri thanked Eurosport of Birkirkara and the Pembroke and Swieqi Local Councils for their support. Other sponsors include Attrans, AtoZ Electronics, Vee Gee Bee and the distributors of Nesquik and Fontana.

Applications for participation can be downloaded, or one can apply and pay online on the club’s website: www.pembrokeathleta.com

More information can be also found on the club’s Facebook page Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon.

Race numbers and goodie bags can be collected form Eurosport, B’Kara on Tuesday 28, Wednesday 29, or Thursday 30 March between 4.30 pm and 7pm.
