Matalan Expands its International Footprint

Matalan Retail Limited has expanded its international presence with the opening of two new stores in Malta. The stores, which are based in the centre of Sliema and Fgura, employ 60 staff, and offer the full range of products, from affordable fashion for the whole family to stylish homewares.

Damian Hopkins, International Director, Matalan commented: “We are thrilled to be opening our first stores in Malta, trading has been very strong in both of our new stores exceeding our expectations; we have been delighted by the local customers’ reactions to our product ranges and our competitive price position”.

The first two Matalan stores to open in Malta are at The Strand, Sliema and Zabbar Road, Fgura. The Camilleri Group, which incorporates leading fashion retail brands, confectionery and catering are the representatives of Matalan in Malta.

The two new stores in Malta add to Matalan’s international portfolio, which already consists of 23 stores. Matalan’s first international franchise store opened in Dubai in 2010, and since that time Matalan has developed its international presence throughout the Middle East region. Matalan also opened a 2100 sqm store in the centre of Yerevan in Armenia in October 2016 and the business is looking at other countries where its great value fashion and home product will appeal, including in Eastern Europe.
