25,000 EU nationals, 9,000 third country nationals working in Malta as at end September 2016

A total of 9,042 third country nationals were working in Malta and Gozo as at end of September 2016, Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said yesterday.

He was responding to a question posed by PN MP Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici.

3,445 of the total were female, and the rest were male.

The highest number of third country nationals working on the islands came from the Philippine­s (1,625) and Serbia (1,380).

Of the total number, 387 third country nationals worked as selfemploy­ed persons.

As for EU nationals not including Maltese persons, there were 25,115 EU nationals working on the island by the end of the same month. 10,331 were female. The largest nationalit­ies were Italian (5,724) and British (4,218). Of the total number of EU nationals, 2,958 were self-employed.
