Kalkara edge closer to championsh­ip

Kalkara virtually declared themselves champions on Monday night when they comprehens­ively beat Xghajra Tornados by three goals to one at the Centenary Stadium. Ryan Sell scored on 13 and 45 minutes with Timmy Thomas scoring a penalty on 44 minutes to put Kalkara 3-0 up at half time.

Xghajra scored a consolatio­n goal through a Julian Spiteri own goal on 75 minutes. Mdina surprising­ly beat Kirkop United in the first encounter also by three goals to one.

Dylan Mintoff opened the scoring after 20 minutes followed by Daniel Cremona on 41 minutes and Mark Saliba on 54 minutes.

Luqa St Andrew’s virtually guaranteed their promotion status when they beat Santa Venera Lightnings by two goals to nil at the Centenary Stadium on Friday evening.

Leeroy Bonnett and Waylon Spiteri scored the goals on 52 and 69 minutes respective­ly.

Santa Lucia also continued their promotion push with an identical 2-0 victory over Mtarfa with Gaynor Damato scoring a brace inside the first 15 minutes.

In two matches from the lower half of the table, Zurrieq beat Dingli Swallows 1-0 and Ta’ Xbiex beat Marsascala 2-1 with both games played at the Charles Abela Stadium.

Radnor Farrugia scored the winning goal on 45 minutes for Zurrieq while a brace from John Paul Sumaila secured the win for Ta’ Xbiex.

Nestor Luis Canas equalised temporaril­y for Marsaskala.
