Zejtun move four points clear

Mgarr United guaranteed their Second Division status with an impressive 4-1 victory over Swieqi United at the Luxol Stadium. Matthew Agius gave Mgarr the lead after 6 minutes with Jamie Micallef doubling the score after 19 minutes.

Nicholas Schembri pulled one back for Swieqi after 39 minutes but Mgarr put the game to bed with two goals from Kenneth Aquilina and Jamie Micallef on 79 and 81 minutes respective­ly. Siggiewi returned to winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 victory over relegated Ghaxaq through a Jason Camilleri goal after 85 minutes.

Attard also secured their Second Division status with a 2-1 victory over St George’s at the Sirens Stadium. Fabian Zammit and Lydon Cuschieri scored for Attard on 40 and 75 minutes while Dylan Caruana reduced the deficit in added time.

Zejtun Corinthian­s played out a 2-0 victory over Gudja United in a bad tempered match with Alan Tabone scoring both goals from the penalty spot.

Qrendi continued their push for the championsh­ip with a slim 1-0 victory over Mellieha with Giovanni Galea scoring the winning goal after 21 minutes.

San Gwann also eked out a slender victory against strugglers Marsaxlokk by a similar margin with the winning goal scored by Sergio Hili on 70 minutes.

In the Friday night match, Zabbar St Patrick lost further ground in their quest for the Second Division championsh­ip when they drew 2-2 against Zabbar St Patrick.

Birzbbugia went ahead on 13 minutes through Ronnie Celeste but were pegged back just two minutes later through Kurt Cutajar. Celeste made it 2-1 on 53 minutes but Gabriel Bonavia rescued a point for Zabbar on the 90th minute.
