Valletta mounted the first two actions after restart. The Citizens kept trying for a winning goal.

Lyon Camilleri headed slightly over the bar from inside the area after a right flank cross by Matthias Tabone and in the 61st minute Zammit should have scored a winning goal for Valletta the upright but he drove out with an open goal at his mercy after a perfect through ball by Matthias Tabone.

Seven minutes before the end of normal time Melita scored what proved to be the winner when Debattista received the ball from a long drop kick by his keeper who in turn served Vella with a through ball on the left edge of the area and as Schiavone came out of his charge to narrow the angle he lobbed the ball over him and into the net.
