Football - Juventus winger Pjaca out for rest of season with injury

Juventus winger Marko Pjaca will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury. Pjaca was stretchere­d off the field in the 64th minute of Croatia’s 3-0 loss to Estonia after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Croatian soccer federation says the 21year-old Pjaca will undergo surgery and needs “several months” to recover. Pjaca is expected to be out for six-toeight months. Juventus teammate Claudio Marchisio, who missed the end of last season and the European Championsh­ip with a similar injury, wrote on Twitter “we’re all with you! Be strong ... You will return to your best to show all your talent!”

Melita won a tight game against Valletta by the odd goal in three. Both sides had their good moments and a draw would have been a fair result. Valletta are now in fifth position on 16 points from 12 ganes while Melita are in sixth place on 12 points from same number of games.

The game was only four minutes old when Melita forged ahead as Owen Sciberras served Angelo Migliore in the area who scored with a low shot past Valletta keeper Brian Schiavone after dribbling past an opponent.

Later Schiavone saved a free kick shot by Matthew Debatiista after Andrew Messina was fouled on the left edge of the area.
