Red strawberries take over picturesque village of Mgarr

Mġarr is mostly synonymous with two very particular items on the Maltese menu. On one hand, the unique way in which the traditional Maltese rabbit is cooked, and for dessert, just right after the beginning of spring time, the juicy strawberries come into play. The event which every year attracts thousands to the small village of Mġarr, is now in its 11th edition. The event has now become one of the country’s most anticipated events on the local calendar. Despite the weather not siding with the organisers, thousands flocked the streets of this tiny village for the strawberry festivals. Farmers delivered freshly picked strawberries to the square while chefs prepared a wide variety of snacks, beverages and desserts based on strawberries. As expected, the event also saw cooks preparing traditional Maltese dishes to feed the public. As announced earlier this week, the Ta’ Haġrat Temples in Mġarr were open to the public at a reduced price for those wishing to view the attraction themselves during Festa Frawli. Heritage Malta organised the tours inside the temples. This event was organised by the Mġarr Local Council and Kummissjoni Lejla Mġarrija with the help of hundreds of volunteers. On Sunday, The Malta Independent reported residents saying that the general feeling among them is that the “event is being organised for a select few at the expense of the vast majority of villagers.”
