Last gasp goal saves Rabat

-

Qormi 2 Rabat A 2

A last gasp goal gave relegation worried Rabat a precious point at the expense of promotion aspirants Qormi, who are now practically out of the promotion race as they trail the top two by five points.

On the other hand Rabat are now almost home and dry after Zebbug’s victory over Gharghur in another match.

Qormi took the lead on 32 minutes, when Noah Ojuola drilled the ball home after receiving from Barbara.

Rabat however were still in the game and they drew level two minutes from the break when Ryan Micallef passed towards Adam Smeir who beat Azzopardi with a precise grounder.

In the second half both sides produced some good attacking football and both teams had scoring opportunities to gain the lead.

With seven minutes remaining Qormi took the lead when exRabat striker Lawrence Chiedozie passed towards Michael Camilleri who shot home from an ideal position.

Four minutes later Qormi should have sealed the issue when they won a penalty when Dylan Falzon tripped Shamison Zammit, but Mark Barbara’s shot from the penalty spot smashed against the crossbar.

Qormi paid dearly for this as deep in stoppage time Rabat obtained a dramatic equaliser when Joseph Caruana headed home from close range in the last action of the game.
